Being a Financially Independent Woman
♫ Monday, December 6th, 2010Many modern women describe a feeling of freedom that comes with paying for themselves on a date. These women have decided to pay their own way for personal reasons, and not because of the man’s financial status. This type of thing is becoming more and more common these days, despite the fact that it used to be considered the overwhelmingly standard practice for the man to pay. This shouldn’t be seen as a loss of chivalry though. The reasons for this phenomenon are something that women are willingly choosing and completely happy with.
While many women want to have an equitable split in finances, some are unable to. Women still earn less on average than their male counterparts when it comes to the workplace. People might be led to believe that things have evened out over the years, but this still isn’t the case. If an average evening out costs about $50, a man who is making more money than the woman may have no difficulty paying for this. But for the woman who is earning less money, this may be a very large chunk of her income, particularly for women who are working part time or are in school.
Some women feel that if they share in equal expenses, equal pay will follow. Others feel that until they receive equal pay, they should not be expected to share equal expenses, particularly on dates. For some women who choose not to pay on dates, it is not a financial decision at all. Many women feel very special when a man treats them to a night out, and being made to feel like they must pay would ruin this feeling. Luckily for these women, there are still plenty of men who take a sense of pride in being able to treat her to a special night out, and they are happy to do so.
